The Story
So our third album is coming out next year and it’ll be called Oddities and Obscenities. If you are new to my band, A Fallen Mind, we are a metal band that was started in Los Angeles, Ca about 5 years ago. Since we began, we have put together some amazing songs and music videos, we’ve been blessed enough to have worked with big names in the industry like Nine Inch Nails and Ministry, we’ve appeared in TV and movies, and our fan base is now spread out all over the world.
When A Fallen Mind was founded in 2008, I was a broke single guy with hopes and dreams of becoming a rock star. Now I’m a broke married guy with a wife, 3 kids, a cat, and a dog. Which is why the last 2 albums and singles were done with the Do It Yourself method. And in the course of doing that, we have tried to remain as indie as possible. We recorded in our homes on crappy equipment, edited on our home computers, and produced the music with minimal mastering. All in the name of saving money, because frankly, we didn’t have any.
In going the indie route we have not had any backing from any record label. The upside of this is that we keep full control over our music, image, merch, and branding. The downside is that we get no advances or backing to pay for studio time … and studio time is expensive. For blue collar working men and women, it’s very difficult to do.
Breaking Out of the Underground
So I started this campaign page to help raise money to make this thing happen. I am always trying to find ways for the fans to get involved in the things we do. And now that I have learned about crowdfunding, I’m trying to show our fans how they can invest in an opportunity to make a really good album.
For our third album, we want to bring in Grayson Dey from Dream Level 7 and Dark Gray Music and produce the best album that A Fallen Mind has made yet. If the campaign is successful, we’ll be going into a professional recording studio and laying down tracks for a full length album. Our campaign’s goal is to try to get our fans involved as much as possible and also give them kool shit for helping us. Stuff like a day at Disneyland where we buy our fans lunch, a chance to appear on the album or in a music video, an autographed guitar, a meet and greet with Jessica and myself, T-Shirts (shown below) for one of our first singles, autographed CDs, posters, and more.
Other Helpfuls
If our fans aren’t sure they can commit, they can help us by getting the word out about our campaign page. Hopefully they will spread the word on their Facebook page by sharing a link to our campaign and by telling their friends, family, and even people they hate. Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, their blog, their website, a local bulletin board at their favorite coffee shop, and anywhere they can let their voice be heard. By posting links to our campaign, they help us reach people we could never be able to reach before.
Epilogue n’ Stuff
We have grown as a band and our fans deserve a better sound. This one will be up to them. Our fans will be changing how we make music, and with their faith in us, we will deliver a sound that will surpass anything we have created before.
We have never settled for second best. We don’t go gently into that good night. Never have and never will. This album WILL get made. No matter what. And we are hoping that with our fans’ help, we will produce an album that not only will make them want to mosh their asses off, but also take us out of the underground. This is an album that our fans will be proud of. This WILL BE our best album yet.
